Published in 2003, ISO 15189 is on Medical laboratories – Particular requirements for quality and competence. The standard specifies need of medical laboratories to develop quality system management. Developed by the International Organisation for Standardization’s Technical Committee 212, ISO 15189 states that any laboratory to become accredited must adhere to this standard. The standard gives an in-depth focus on patient safety and addresses the importance of employee ethics in medical laboratory.
